The winter of 2009/2010 was so severe that 750 miles of our paved roads suffered frost heave. It was significant enough that we applied to FEMA for disaster relief. Fortunately, Sicalco worked with us on using Liquidow™ calcium chloride to rebuild our failed road bases. After experimenting for two years with different methods of mixing the cacl2 into our aggregate, we decided to purchase a pugmill and mix a dense graded aggregate and embark on a program to rebuild our roadways with Liquidow™ stabilized aggregate. To date, we have rebuilt 350 of our miles and cannot be more pleased with the results. As our older roads fail we scarify them and add a 5” lift of Liquidow™ treated base. Some are left without a more expensive wearing surface because the stabilized, dust controlled base is so much better than the old untreated pavement. The Liquidow™ pugmill mixed aggregate has been so successful our citizens have petitioned us to replace their failed pavement with the Liquidow™ treated base.
